I still think too much is made of a chemical vs. a mechanical bond with epoxy. Epoxy is an excellent glue as long as the surface can be roughened up some the mechanical bond will be nearly as good as a chemical one.

Sure a chemical bond is preferred but it's not the end of the world if you don't get it.
