all I could think of was Marlborough Sounds though not which beach

It's the second bay from Anakiwa along the Queen Charlotte walk, the name of which escapes me at the minute. Beautiful clear water, no other yachts present, exactly as the Maori and European settlers would have seen it hundreds of years ago. Amazing.

My present kayak is 5 m by 510 mm, the narrow version of the Mac50

I hadn't actually considered s&g designs - was looking for strip boats - but I'd like to build one at some point. (I was thinking I'd build a s&g kids' kayak as our oldest is 10 ... and now I've found your website and seen the MacKK. Cool.)

we use Norski epoxy

Norski is good stuff. We used that exclusively on the Stornoway dinghy. We glassed the interior of that and the epoxy was great to work with. I particularly like the colourless appearance.
