The Panthera is a very different beast than the Njord though they fill the same basic role: fast distance touring. They go about it in totally different ways. The Njord is more along the lines of a traditional sea kayak. The Panthera is more akin to fast sea kayaks like the Epics 18X, Tiderace Pace series, Seabird H20, Point65n XP18 or Freya. It would do quite well in an offshore distance race. It is designed for a rudder though. If you don't wish to use one then build the Njord. You won't be sorry either way.
