Hi John, I was hoping you'd share your experience.

I think some might take my words a little too literally. I didn't want to imply the Panthera and other hybrid kayaks were simply decked surf skis. They do share common design features though: plumb bow and sterns, long waterlines, high LWL/BWL ratios, efficient, rockered rounded/elliptical hull shapes, generous bow volume, etc. They are not stiff tracking, hard chined sea kayaks.

Some of the difference in feel between Panthera and surfski may well be the lack of a deck on a 'ski which pretty well takes the knees and hips out of action for keeping the boat upright. A more expert paddler than me might have a different 'take' on the differences.

It's interesting you mention this. The "Spray" kayak I built for Zack in Tennessee was literally a Spindrift surf ski with a deck. It had similar dimensions to his Think Hawx surf ski. He found the decked "Spray" to be much more stable as he could use his knees and hips for bracing.
