Shortly after this discussion, I found that Festool is now offering a similar form-factor sander to the Mirka Ceros/Deros with the ETS EC125/3 5" Random Orbit Sander http://amzn.to/20rw3Y3

I don't particularly like the taller tower style ROS similar to the Makita, Dewalt, Bosch etc. They always felt top heavy to me. I have been more comfortable with the horizontal barrel style handle giving nice control. The Ceros/Deros addresses the height issue with a low profile/center of gravity design. The new Festool might not be quite as low, but it looks like you could comfortably grab it by the neck. I like that it doesn't have the paddle switch on the top like the Mirka.

I'm seriously considering the Festool, primarily because I don't want to stock yet one more variety of sandpaper. The Mirka seems to be marginally lighter, considerably more expensive, possibly slightly better made, but the Festool would fit better into my existing set up while filling a niche not occupied by my Rotex sanders.
