Thanks for the input. So I went to the lumber yard and bought redwood. While picking through the stack I noticed that 1x6 and 1x12 looked thinner than the 1x4. I measured and the 1x4 was 23/32 while the others were 21/32. Considering the price and thickness, I went with the 1x4. I started cutting strips today and get 9 from each 1x4.
