Yes, I'm thinking more like a the hinge on the trunk of a car. Something hidden inside. I would think that as long as the hinge has no play in it and is placed properly then the latch will provided the clamping power for the gasket. I wonder if one of the heavy duty inside cabinet hinges would work. The ones I have used have a cam that holds the door open and also holds it tight to the cabinet when closed. Not tight enough to clamp the gasket but the the latch would to the work there. Maybe even some rare earth magnets would work and keep the outside free from any hardware. I would think this sort of design may not be for the Eskimo rollers, but for those of us who plan to stay upright it should keep the water out.

Also the hinges would have to be on the side where the plane is somewhat flat. I don't think it would work if there were a hinge on each side of a curved peak without binding unless you built flat areas under the deck and lid.
