Sorry, I didn't answer your question about wattage. For the low volume of glue we output wattage isn't much of an issue.

But lower wattage, less expensive guns do burn out if left on for long periods. Ask me how I know. I hate coming in the shop in the morning and seeing that red light glowing on my glue gun. The power company loves it!

Gun tips are very important and make a huge difference. Surbonder seems to make a lot of guns, but they're quality is inconsistent, perhaps due to outsourced suppliers.

I have one corded, dual temp, low cost, Surebonder glue gun that just spews an un-controllable gush of glue which is nearly useless. If that was the only gun I knew I say forgetaboutit!

Even the new cordless glue gun had a tip I didn't like, but I was able to switch out, one of the tips from one of their other corded guns and improve the precise delivery of a dot of glue as needed.
