well its been a while....its cold so things have been on hold... other that sorting out how to take my pile of 1/4 inch bead and cove and turn it into 3/16.

anyway, after weeks of trying to find a cheap thickness planer on craigslist, i was mentioning my problem to a friend. next day i get a knock at the door and he has a Rigid thickness planer in the bed of his truck. he apparently had it in his garage and told me he was in no hurry to have me return it.

so onto you tube to learn how to use it and an hour of practicing with scrap strips from a previous project and i got it all set up and it works perfectly. take 1/32 off each side and walla...a perfect bead and cove 3/16 strip. the machine is all marked now and calibrated so i am confident about being able to repeat the operation with consistency.

the cedar cuts extremely easily on the planer....am very pleased with the result. the planed strips are smoother than the original.

just thought i would share with all that it works...some were concerned it would make a mess of perfectly good 1/4 stock. but if you want 3/16 and only have access to 1/4....a thickness planer is the way to go.
