To pad the tips on my cheap spring clamps I use cut off about one inch pieces of clear tubing that is sold in drug stores for various medical uses. Pick a size that barely fits over the end of your clamps. I would guess it might not be too hard to attach bands under the tight tubing. And thank you for the idea.
