Maintenance is also an issue, many of the epoxy problems I've come across have been with older boats that the maintenance has let slide and then UV damage happens. Then it's a downward slide until major work is needed.
If the boats are properly maintained generally this isn't an issue. Sure disassembly and re-varnishing isn't a fun job, but it's a lot less work than what happens if it's not done.
