I have a stash of European maple boards (or any other maple for that matter) that I could use on some project. But, this stuff is almost half heavier than red cedar wood. 38 lbs/ft3 (615 kg/m3) compared to 23 lbs/ft3 (370 kg/m3) for red cedar.
Now, I guess I can't make maple strips any thinner, that I could with red cedar. It's not that much stronger, if it is stronger at all? Or could I make them a millimeter or two thinner?
If I go that way, I will end up with half heavier SUP compared to the one made in red cedar (for example).
Is it worth it, or would it turn out too heavy?
