The rule of thumb is your saw must have at least three teeth in the thickness of the material at all times.

A rough ride means you don't have enough teeth.

Another factor is whether you're cutting with or against the material grain, be it wood or fiberglass.

Take a clue from table saw and miter saw blades.

A table saw is usually ripping with the grain and table saw blades can work very well with as few as 24 teeth.

The miter or chop saw is cutting across the wood grain so to have a clean cut it may have as many as 60 teeth.

This is why I'm very happy with the 32 - 36 tooth "metal" jig saw blades. They make a clean smooth cut.

Try it, you'll like it!

Plus it don't cost much.
