I use Runmeter Elite to track things. I am interested in fitness, but it sounds like the mapping and data logging are more advanced than what you're replacing. It even tracks the weather during the use interval. It can be set for different activities and whether or not the timer stops when it detects no motion. I tried it yesterday and did not turn off this feature, so while doing some whitewater play boating that involved a lot of surfing it did not record the time. It said I was exercising for 23 minutes, and I was out for 2 1/2 hours. I have a hard polycarbonate dry case for my device. Look for it on the App store.
