well folks, my Petrel project is moving along well but i need some help.
by way of background, i have posted several times on this project and it is moving along smoothly. i cleaned out somebody's garage who bought the kit from CLC back in 2008, lost interest and then just wanted the pile of wood cleared out.
apparently the cockpit recess parts got lost (cockpit recess back and the cockpit recess) so i am missing those and want to know if i can make them by gluing up a panel of cedar strips and then cutting out the shapes per the plans (which i have). i have been very efficient at the stripping...so i have extra cedar strips i can use for this.
the cedar strips i have are 3/16 thick (they started out 1/4 inch but i used a thickness planer to get them to 3/16).
i see marked on the plans they call for plywood....but i don't have the stuff handy and think cedar will probably look better. so not sure if the direction on the plans for plywood is for structural reasons that somehow would not be satisfied with glued-up cedar strips (the same way you can also make up cheek plates).
any advice...particularly from Nick would be appreciated.
