After reading several posts about joining shock cord based on Joe Greenly's CA Glue method, I struggled to make a neat connection. The end of the cord that needed to have the bands removed and go over the thinned end always had bulges. So I looked around my shop and found some parachute cord. It is the cheep stuff from HD, and the cover slides off the core easily. That gave me the idea to use the cover with CA to make the connection. It works well and i can really pull on them. So far I have only tested it. I would like black parachute cord so it shows less, but the new cord I bought does not expand as much so the ends cannot be pushed inside the tube to make clean ends. So I plan to cover the splice with shrink tubing.
This is what I did.
1. Cut approximately 4" of cord and remove the core.
2. With tweezers push the end inside the ends to give a clean look.
3. Expand the cover This shortens the cover tube.
4. Push the ends of the reduced diameter and glued shock cord into cover tube, clamp it and saturate with CA glue.
