By the way this was the tech response to my questions about use. I am sure the above the water line comment applies to boats that remain in the water.
We appreciate your use and interest in our Varathane coatings. You may choose to apply our Spar Urethane over a previous coating above the waterline whether it is oil or water based as long as previous coating is cured and is sanded and cleaned appropriately. The Satin sheen should not give you any less UV protection compared to our Gloss urethane.
