In reference to some of the comments, you really don't need perfectly straight for either internal or external.
What you need is the ability and the willingness to align each form to all the others.
Internal strongbacks need some clearance between the forms and the strongback and the effort to align and fix their positions accurately. While not absolutely necessary, I find a laser to be very helpful.

Just a comment, technically there is no physically practical 2x4 beam which will stay straight when supported in a horizontal position. You might be willing to accept the small deflection, but it will be there. Another issue is that extruded aluminum beams are not guaranteed to be straight.

External hardbacks also don't have to be perfectly straight, the forms can be adjusted in position when installed to make all of the forms straight relative to each other - within good enough.

For instance, I have an external hardback which I use as a working bench for either external forms for a SOF or for an internal hardback. Neither the "bench" nor the internal hardback is straight within my definition of good enough.
