The driers in hardware store BLO contain lead, cadmium, and cobalt. Mildew wouldn't grow? Go figure.

Raw linseed oil, polymerized linseed oil, or the fancy organic purified boiled linseed oil are different.

I am now a fan of pine tar, which is antiseptic and seals the wood.
