Use a flat bottom boat on one of those lakes and see.

As an owner of a flat bottom powerboat, I know there are days I can comfortably go out on Long Island Sound and days that will loosen fillings.

It isn't that the boat is unsuitable for LIS, but that there are days when it will be most comfortable just puttering along and days I can open up the throttle. Nothing wrong with the boat, it is just not suitable for all uses on all days. Most days I can go out to Bushy Point comfortably accept those days that I can't.

If you want to have a real hoot, take a short sit on top kayak out into a tide race. It may pearl, submarine, and get thrown all over the place, but if you go in with the right frame of mind, it is a riot. While completely "unsuitable" it makes for lots of giggles.

Again, it is not the body of water that defines the suitability, it is how the boat is used on the day in question.
