In the thread asking about a kayak for Lake Erie the post stated;
"Lake Erie can turn bad fast."
In response you stated.
"There is really no such thing as a boat suitable for a particular of water body."
I disagree with that statement and that is way I bothered to respond. How much broader a statement could you have made? Your intent was not at all clear given your later responses.
All current boats are designed with with paddlers skills and local water conditions in mind.
It is the responsibility of the seller of boats and plans to fit the boat to the skills, purpose and prevailing water conditions where the boat will be used.
If this is what you mean then just say so.
The fact that this does not happen in the mass market is clear. Cheap boats and profit are the only motivation.
I ask all my customers to contact me so I can suggest designs appropriate for their skills, purpose and prevailing water conditions.
Perhaps I was thrown off by your "bathtubs" and "destroyers" comments which lead me down the path of thinking about way we have so many different boats design of all kinds, from times when the only people in boats were those who worked in boats for a living. These boats were designed for specific purposes and local water conditions. Did anyone in those days consider the next guy's skills. No, you had the skill or you were gone, period.
