Strip: Making a paddle

I have a bunch of Bending Branches flberglass/nylon blade and carbon shaft paddles. They are a bit heavy and noisy. I recently bought a Werner Callista bent shaft. I love how light it is, but unless you hold it firm during a power stroke, it flutters. So I want to make a paddle of my own with a cedar shaft with a single sheath of carbon, with carbon flukes modeled after the Bending Branches. I read Sam Risettas pictorial essay on making a carbon paddle and it seems quite functional. Wondered if anyone might comment on their experience.
