Skin-on-Frame: Polyester Covering

I am nearing completion of my first SOF Kayak, I have ironed the skin with my iron set at almost the hottest setting which when measuring with a thermocouple is about 240 degrees. The skin is 8 oz polyester that I got with my Kit from Dave Gentry. I am just wondering how to tell if I have the skin as tight as I can get it. It still seems rather springy to me. Is that what I am to expect. the videos that I have seen on youtube and elsewhere seem to show the skin being more "Drum Head" tight? Will the finish, paint, or varnish, have any impact on the rigid feel of the skin? I would think that if the skin is this supple that finish will need to be elastic as well?
