It's a tough market. Unless you're a known builder who has built up a good reputation, it can be hard for home builders to sell their boats. So how does one build up a good rep? By selling boats. Yeah, it's a chicken and the egg situation.

Even as a commercial builder it can be very hard to sell "spec" boats. People have very specific wants and needs on wooden kayaks. Early on I built a pretty generic kayak specifically with the intent on selling it. To test the market. I had it on display at various paddling centers and boat shows for almost two years with little interest. It finally did sell: just over my cost.

Now I build on entirely on commission only.

The level of your work is very high. I would inquire with higher end paddling and outdoor equipment stores about putting it on display. You might have to give them a percentage of the price but you'd be getting a lot of free advertising. Worth a shot...
