So you have one side straight and one side with varying width along the length.
You need to make sure you get both sides parallel.

A tablesaw will guarantee the width over the entire length.

On a planer you need to have a jig which holds the group of strips tightly over the entire length. 8'?

The tablesaw is easier, with better control.
