I think Rob outlined a good repair strategy.

I think the original glue joints between the strips were weak and failed due to not enough glue. Then there was movement between the strips under stress that caused the glass to fracture between the strips. The glass functions in several ways, one is holding the strip shape together like a girdle. But the stripped shape has to function as one with solid glue joints.

Your epoxy and glass application were probably fine, but the movement between those strip joints gave way and the glass skin could not carry the stress load. Maybe if you had 3 times the glass it would have carried the movement between those failed glue joints?

Dig in and just do what Rob outlined and it will probably go easier that you thought. Check those strip joints by pressing to see if there's movement between the strips. If so, you can force some epoxy in there and even using an exacto knife if needed.
