Actually the vinyl tubing is probably a better, longer lasting fix. But for plastic dip product you could just clamp a piece of wood wide enough to hold the clamp open in the area near the pivot and not where you normally use the clamp to hold them open while the material dries. Might have to use a C clamp to get the open enough to make this work.
