With all due respect, you're a bit off with your building knowledge.

Cedar is a terrible building wood. The epoxy / glass makes it a boat and be able handle water and stress.

I looked at your boat photo. Why strip it at all???? sand it with 220 and give it a coat of varnish and enjoy life.

Also, If you do strip and re-glass it, working outside will be fine. Bugs?? you have to sand anyhow.

Believe me, just re-varnish it!!!!

Jay, no worries; I'm first to admit how little I know on this. Assuming you were looking at the "Loon" photos (and not the Coho): I just pulled the tarps off that boat, which it had sat under since January; some of the epoxy/glass is bubbling up now. I was able to peel it off with a plastic trowel and no heat. It also has a couple of areas where the planks are caved in along the seam. (But I know how to fix that now, thanks to one of Nick's videos.)

If I ever build a boat from scratch, I'm gonna use walnut! HA.
