You'd have to handle a surfski with more care than most SOF boats. All the 'skis I've seen are very lightly constructed. Combined with the underhung rudder, that means that you need to carry the boat into and out of the water, and hop in when it is floating.
But, if you want to go fast, a surfski is an excellent workout choice. The older skis that you find cheap on the used market are mostly outdated racing boats, so tend to be tippy, especially in waves. There are newer 'skis that are more stable feeling (and also faster if it's rough).

Yeah, the fragility was part of the reason I didn't jump on it right away. It was a used Epic V8, which are reportedly pretty stable for surfskis. I love going fast in the Coho, but I'm always wondering what else is faster. Someday I'll probably buy/make either a Pax 18 or (if I ever get to that level) one of Nick's designs, like the Mystery.
