Strip: vinyl foam hybrid?

Two part question - a) is this possible? then b) if you could, would there be any advantage?

What if you built a kayak frame along the lines of the fuselage method shown in Kudzu Craft for skin on frame kayaks, but then filled in the stringers with a foam core material such as divinycell, and then glassed it in using basically the process from a strip-built boat?

You wouldn't have the beautiful wood finish of a cedar strip boat, of course, but seems like it would be much faster, easier, and cheaper to build - might be lighter as well.

Has anyone tried this? Any obvious flaws?
