A friend of mine has done a S&G race kayak with divinycell. Worked fine, light weight and strong enough for racing. As stated earlier divinycell is not as inherently strong as most wood. As such it needs more glass to have the same strength. While it can be very light and quite stiff with minimal glass, it is susceptible to bruising and crushing of the core. For comparable durability, pound for pound a wood core is very hard to beat.

If I understand, you are proposing essentially making a set of frames/forms held together by stringer all of which you leave in the finished boat. Conceptually it should work, however the frames for a fuselage frame are more complex than strip building frames in that you cut out most of the interior, and they need notches for the stringers, etc. If you are planing on glassing the interior, then you may end up with a set for the deck and for the hull, so you are making more. Maybe you have another solution?

If you are leaving the frames in place and glassing the interior, you may need to glass around the frames. Sounds annoying.

While it certainly should work, I am having a hard time visualizing the benefit of this over more established methods.

I read elsewhere that you haven't built a boat yet. I would suggest that if you want to do it this way, start now before you let anyone talk you out of it. You are in a state of blissful ignorance that allows innovations to be made without the detrimental effects of hard earned experience. If you do so, you will either come up with some great new methods for building boats, or you will learn exactly why no one else is doing it your way.
