After considerable research, I'd decided that your Shearwater Sport kit from CLC looked like a good choice - only thing holding me back is my Chief Accounting Officer aka wife. I could save some money buy building from plans, but my impression (perhaps mistaken) is the engineering of the S&G construction benefits from precision in the cutting, so going with the CNC-produced parts for S&G seems like a good idea.

I started checking out SoF construction just to see what that was about, and it certainly seems cool in its own right, plus the fuselage method is advertised as being cheap(er) and appears pretty easy. As you point out, cutting out all of those forms would be additional work - but it seems pretty straightforward, just cutting out flat pieces of plywood with a jigsaw. I could be totally wrong about this, but it seems more forgiving, with less need for precision than a strip or S&G boat would need. That's why I was thinking about ways to leverage that technique.

All in all, though, I think I'm probably better off going with the Shearwater Sport kit - I just need to convince my wife.
