If you are going to start throwing divinycell into the mix you can stop thinking about cheaper. SOF techniques standup quite well on their own as do S&G techniques. They are both fine ways to make quality boats. Trying for some sort of hybrid, you run the risk of overly complicating and otherwise fairly simple technique, and you might end up with the worst of both instead of the best. Then again, you might get something better than both.

Seriously, don't let us know-it-alls talk you out of trying something new. I believe there is a lot of value in trying to work unsullied by the opinions of experts. At the very least you will have fun.
