I apologize for confusing you with your brother!

I do think I'm most likely over-complicating this whole thing, particularly given John's note that it's really not that difficult to cut out the S&G panels, as my price comparison was including the cost of having CLC cut out the panels.

The only reason this might - MIGHT - be worth pursuing, is from reading your blog and that of other kayak designers, there are (obviously) certain compromises you have to make from your "ideal sketch" to resolve both material and production issues (i.e., designing something that can be home-built without a mold). My impression is that the S&G method imposes more restrictions on the shape - that you can get closer to your "ideal sketch" with the strip method.

However, the strip method itself seems to impose some additional constraints - primarily cosmetic/aesthetic, I think...? That is, the goal of a strip project seems to be to end up with a "wooden boat" - which is, of course, great, I'm just wondering if there's any advantage to removing that constraint, and thinking of the problem instead as something more like "getting the ideal physical design of a strip boat while maintaining the ease of construction of S&G."

My premises here may be entirely wrong, of course.
