Etienne - great advice, I agree with every word. The CLC site provides a materials list with prices for ordering a la carte - the biggest expense is the epoxy, at about $350. So that's the big savings with the SoF designs. Cost aside I like the idea of doing it all myself, but if you buy the complete kit it appears they're only charging about $150 to cut the parts out - which seems pretty reasonable. The issue is, as you say, sourcing the plywood in particular - seems to be the shipping costs that really get you.

As I mentioned before the thing with "cheaper" isn't about being cheap - it's that I can buy what appears to be a very nice boat for $1,000, so if I'm going to build something myself, aside from the fun factor the calculation is whether I end up with an equivalent boat for less money, or a better boat for the same money. In looking at your photos (very nice btw) - doing the hybrid kit would definitely seem to be a much better boat for the same money.
