I totally agree with John. You will have something like $1500 total into a quality kit build (like the Shearwater Sport) when you include consumables. For that amount of money, any similar commercial kayak that you buy will be plastic, and will be far inferior to the SWS. It will be heavier (by a bunch), slower, less durable and will not handle as well. It will also be butt ugly. To get a commercial kayak of similar quality/performance to the SWS, you are looking at some kind of FG/composite boat that will cost around $3000. So from my perspective, when I build a boat that costs ~$1500, I get one that performs like a $3000 boat but is MUCH better looking.
