Hey all
I thought that I would share a solution to more security onboard. It's another kayak .. screwed together in wood, so it's rigid. The blue pontoons are bags, each with a folded mountain-bike tire inside. They are velcro-stuck (other solutions can compete) to bands that that wraps around the hull (at the sections) on the outside and are primarily thought of as auxiliary fishing-gear - giving more stability to a boat that are made for doing miles! The pontoons can be adjusted up/down to make it function as capsize-preventers in a rough sea too .. primarily I like their low wind-profile and that they probably won't disturb the paddling (haven't tested them yet); and that they are both light (compared to other solutions) and easy to mount.
I've added 4 bands around the hull and the pontoons shares one with another safety intend: I've covered the cockpit-sections (they are now plates with a section-profile) and added the outside bands to strap tightly the skin up against the sections to make do for a for- and aft-lukaf. It's not strictly watertight ,but it will prevent a catastrophic flooding. The summer passed before it could be finished and tested. - I'll let you know if it does not live up to expectations. The lukaf solution is skin-independant in the sense that it's not bothered with af hefty shrinking skin (ballistic nylon ~10%).

I've added a picture to the folder.

I suppose that I have the whole winter to sink in 6*6 snap-locks (stringers-to-sections) into the plywood .. it could do wonders to the assembly situation. Screwing the wooden rods together is a price that is well payed by the strict overall stability when assembling. If I change the central keel rods with slightly stronger wood, I would feel safer handling a wet heavy boat on shore too.

Cheers
