I'm sorry John, but there is no way your 13.5 ft boat is keeping up with any of my longer boats. Some people may want to just tootle around at slow cruising speed whenever they are out, but what if you want to get out for a bit of exercise and cover some distance?

And as soon as you turn downwind in a following sea I am going to have to break out the rear view mirror. I just don't buy it. The theory may be fine on paper, on flat water, in no wind, but everything changes under dynamic conditions.

If your theory holds true, then why does any day paddler bother getting into anything over 14 ft?

Also, the hull section make a huge difference in these considerations. A flat bottomed boat is going to have similar drag for people of different weights, while a hull with V in the keel and flare in the topsides is going to produce less drag for a lighter paddler, sitting higher in the water as it will, but again, these differences would be more marked in flat windless conditions.

For a smaller paddler, who is displacing less, the wetted area is reduced, so a smaller boat is viable, provided it is not too wide. I still believe the LT is the more practical option for a more beefy guy, be he on the short side. The SLT IMO is for small lightweights or teenagers.

We didn't have all Nyah's vital statistics, so we were guessing to some degree, and offering options on the unknown variables.
