In the engineering world this is what we call "belt and suspenders".

You only need one, but its your choice.

If you want foam, get something guaranteed to be "closed cell" foam, so it does not suck up water in the future.

In the 70's and 80's I helped dig out 2 part foam from boats that had gotten unrealistically heavy. The "skin" of the foam had been damaged and water was just sucked up and held in the foam.

If you pour in foam, weight the boat before and after you pour it in. Keep that record so you can weight it later and know if you have sucked up water.
