Just to be clear - I'm just talking about incorporating the minimum flotation needed to keep the boat from sinking, not necessarily the amount you'd need to support the boat's entire cargo capacity. If you're going to be transporting bricks, you'd presumably still want to throw in a float bag or two.

Calculating the exact amount needed seems somewhat complex, but a back of the envelope calculation suggests that one cubic foot of displacement - about 62 pounds of buoyancy - distributed throughout the boat would probably do it.
