I have only ever built boats for day use and have not fitted bulheads & hatches.
For bouyancy I tape/tie together 2pint UK, (approx 2.2litre) platic milk cartons in a shape
to fit the area in front of my foot rests and to fill as much of the rear of the boat as is not
wanted on the day for storage.
Being of virtualy square section, there is little space between them.
I havn't taken them out and counted them but I am guessing that there are in the region
of 55 to 60 in total. I can't imagine a scenario which would puncure more than 10% of them.
This to my mind makes them a safer and lighter option than a pair of air bags, at 0 cost.
I'm interested to hear what others think of this option.
