The featherboard placed on top of the blade prevents kickback and holds each strip as the cut is completed allowing me to reach behind my small portable saw and pull out the strip from the featherboard. If I were to use a large cabinet saw to cut strips I would use a short auxiliary rip fence to allow me to pull the strip free from the hold of the featherboard.

One of the tablesaw 'safety rules' I do follow (100%) is to never put my hand 'past the blade' - i.e. never reach over or around the blade, where a kickback (or inattention) could pull my hand into danger.

The accident you mention on your web page illustrates the problem.

We had different 'Zen masters', I guess.
