Correct. A perfectly smooth cut surface is not required. Everything else being equal, a smooth cut is better than a rough one, but for our purposes, it isn't that critical so long as the surface is doesn't have deep cut marks. I use the cheapest (~$10) 7.25" 24 tooth Diablo and it produces a really clean cut.
