Hi Rob and John-

I'd seen a couple of approaches to table saw set up so I checked with my cousin, who's a master furniture maker. He advised against featherboards (not sure if he thinks they're unnecessary, or if they cause some sort of problem - if I get a chance I'll ask) but otherwise it's basically the same as Rob's set-up

Everyone has a reason for not liking something. They've had a bad experience for some reason and stop investigating what went wrong.

Tools and techniques have depths that we usually only investigate and learn and understand over a lifetime.

I use one broad featherboard, made from 3/4" stock, simply held to my fence with spring clamps. The featherboard is pressed down firmly and clamped. Correctly placed, you feel the resistance of the featherboard pressing down against the board.

The blade is covered and the strip is held down firmly in front of and behind the cut.

Fast, simple and proven.
