I apply veneers over previously glassed substrate surfaces/edges so the underlayment cannot be damaged when sanding the veneer when breaking the sharp veneer edge. When possible apply tape next to the veneer edge to act as an indicator of the veneer edge thickness so you don't sand through an edge.

Any glue squeeze out can be cleaned up without damaging the deck or hull wood. Apply a glass patch over the veneer, fill and feather the edges.

Sorry to belabor this but I want to be sure I have it right. So the deck area on the baidarka stern isn't different from anything else - in all cases, you first glass the deck in the normal way, one layer of cloth and then enough coats of epoxy to fill the weave. You then glue down the veneer, feather the edge of the veneer, then apply an additional layer of cloth over the veneer, then coats of epoxy to fill the weave plus sanding to feather the edge of the glass?
