I would dye the wood and glass it as is.
On top of the glass I'd apply a veneer stripe. You could have a light color between two darker bands to cover the crooked line.
Your substrate will be protected if you have any problems and have to remove the first veneer trial. When you like it, apply a layer of glass over the veneers.
I do this all the time with veneers applied to decks.
