With titebond you really don't need a huge amount of force to get the strips to bond to each other. I've never used near 150 psi. and it's always held fine on cedar. It really is just the core of the composite after all.

I'm not sure starting with a complex boat like a baidarka is the best way to learn how to build kayaks, but that's up to you.
