Nick, I cannot thank you enough for your post. I was able to do something similar. I started to copy the rough shape you showed and after playing around with it for a while, I got a similar pattern in ruling lines and decent looking cross sections. At one point, the ruling lines kept fanning out the same way all the way to the end, but I made some "improvements" and could not get the old shape back. The cross sections still look decent.

I then played with the other stem (left in picture) trying to get a more pronounced transition between keel and stem, and had some limited success with that. I noticed that if the curvature has a peak at the transition, a kink results in the cross sections more often than not. In the plots, the left side of the profile view corresponds to the right side in the body plan. You can see slightly more curvature in the cross sections on the right. The profile view shows the ruling lines, and as you can see, they are very slanted except near the center. My assumption that the curvature in the sectional lines was caused by the slant was wrong, and I am very happy that that is the case. The ruling lines in the plots below follow the same pattern as before with three fans. I think what differentiates this attempt is that the centers of the two fan patterns at the ends are much further away from the keel than in any previous designs.

I tried to mimic your control point pattern with my Bezier curves initially, but I think ultimately the keel to stem transition is the dominant factor. I put the control points in the plot, but I can change their coordinates within wide ranges and produce similar results.

I think I still have a lot of work to do to develop a shape that looks good, but this is really a big step for me. Thank you and everybody who has contributed to this thread, it has been extremely helpful.
