It is not obligatory to sand between coats of schooner. You will get a chemical bond even after a couple of days.

I don't sand Schooner. I just add a coat every 24 - 36 hours. If I was feeling very fussy, which I never have, I suppose I might sand the penultimate coat. Varnishi is for UV protection. Sanding some of it off seems to me to be defeating the point.

I also do the hull and deck in one go. I hang it up and use a WEST roller to get it on and a brush to tip off. I apply it in about two foot sections in a go.
