A forum is open to any and all participants, unless they violate the rules enough.

I suggest you not sit quiet. I suggest you post any question, sermon, design, trip or anything related to Kayaking.
Occasionally people go beyond that because they know there are a set of skills which might help them.

The only arbiter on this forum is Nick Schade and he graciously allows most anything even if we are not quite well behaved children.

You can listen or not. I agree with several people who said one of the strengths of a good forum is the possibility that an unusual idea can be proven to the benefit of us all.
Personally, I really detest the idea that anyone has to follow the "wisdom" of an old clique.
For me, I'm a recently retired engineer and I will always be looking for the reasons (or facts) which make a suggestion work - or not.

I have had my own "pet project" which I presented here. After a couple of questions there was resounding silence.
That's how you can tell if you have an interested audience.

Welcome to the forum. I'll be working very hard not to argue with you.

Marc - I really appreciate this response. The frustrating thing for me was I felt like we got off on the wrong foot, not because of what either of us actually meant, but we just weren't able to get past the way we were saying it. That's what I was trying to fix, if I could.

I understand why some of my posts set you off - in particular some of the earlier ones, and I take total responsibility for that. More recently, my intent wasn't to post mis-information, but I understand why you'd be sensitive to that. My thinking was if someone goes to the trouble to respond to my question with valuable information, then it becomes my responsibility to "pay that forward" and provide that information to the next person who asks (with attribution, of course), because it's not fair to make the same people answer the same questions over and over again - as I said before, you take a penny, you leave a penny. But if that's not how it's done here, then I totally understand how what I was doing could be mis-perceived, and how my attempts to establish trust would have the opposite effect.

A challenge for me is I work at a desk on a computer all day long - I have constant temptation to engage in a subject I'm interested in rather than deal with work, but I recognize that I don't need to respond to every post, etc., and I'll do my best to keep that urge in check.

I'm intrigued by your "pet project" - is there a subject line I can search the archive for?
